101 Reasons to Stop Writing

The Fundamentals of Our Publishing are Wrong

This Month's Demotivator:

A Rare Personal Interlude

About 24 hours ago I was ready to put 101 Reasons on indefinite hiatus. Time is just hard to come by. I always thought I’d rather pack it in than leave two-week gaps between posts. I even started (mentally) wording a farewell.

Then Ms. Reasons gave me an extraordinarily thoughtful, exquisite, and (although she ordered it a week ago) perfectly timed gift.

It’s nearly 4AM. It’s snowing outside. And I’m here writing this blog.

If that doesn’t shave a sentence off your output today, I might have to break your Shift key. Assuming you ever use it.

  1. and why would i use my shift key/ it’s the editor’s job to figure out where the uppercase letters go, and it’s mine to collect the checks. that’s the way of the universe ever since writer’s digest started convincing all of us unique snowflakes of our genius, right/

  2. Ooo, neat! 101 Reasons to Stop Writing this Blog! I’d read that, too!

  3. Aw, I’m really glad you didn’t pack it in. I check in here every day, and if there are gaps between the posts, I don’t mind. I just check in the next day, too.

I know it’s hard to find the time, but fans of your blog will take what we can get, with not a hard feeling in sight. :0D

  4. Say it ain’t so! Way too many bloggers are falling by the wayside.

We need a strong voice giving us writers a reality check, especially since Miss Snark is gone.

Glad you’re sticking around. Re: blog posts - as my father used to say: Everything in moderation.

    Best,
    Josephine

  5. You really are a clearinghouse for all things writerly going on in the Intertubetrons. Feel free to cut down to once a week, real life should come first.
