(It’s been a while since the last Weekend Update. You’ve missed nothing.)
From the newly-blogging veteran agent Lori Perkins:
“I wanted to ask him if he was taking medication that made him think he was the center of the universe, but then I remembered that this is what happens whenever you write something.”
New York Magazine has a long, detailed article on the fall of Judith Regan. Her favourite saying:
“I have the biggest cock in the building!”
Agent Kristin discusses why publishers are jealous mistresses. She also gives a glimpse into why publishers leave the slushpile to agents.
The Unemployed Writer (terms which go together like “unreadable” and “memoir”) has been experimenting with micropayment content sites like Helium recently. You can read this ongoing saga, or you can just take heed of the “micro-” prefix.
I wasn’t familiar with the late Molly Ivins, but she did make this observation:
“When satire is aimed at the powerless, it is not only cruel–it’s vulgar.”
I think there’s something in that, for all of me.
Oh, and you should all upgrade to Windows Vista. It’ll make you exactly 0% more productive, and for the 6-24 hours it takes you to fix everything that breaks, you won’t get any writing done.

That’s right. I put the micro back in “not getting paid”. It’s a long and spindly ladder to climb…unfortunately I’m still at the bottom of it, not getting paid. And now that I have Windows Vista I can not get paid even slower. Plus I can not get paid for the 2 days I spent installing it.
