101 Reasons to Stop Writing

The Fundamentals of Our Publishing are Wrong

This Month's Demotivator:

At the Risk of Crossing the Line …

(I’ve so far resisted the rare temptation to post anything irrelevant to 101 Reasons‘ mission, not wanting this to devolve into a “my cat did something funny today” kind of blog. But this is sort of on topic.)

Seen five minutes ago on Fox News, during coverage of the alleged serial murder of three prostitutes in Ipswich, England:

Is the ghost of Jack the Ripper alive?

It’s not just moronic, it’s oxymoronic. Somehow stop writing just doesn’t seem enough.

  1. I see this sort of stupidity constantly: on a much lesser scale, it’s like how every report on discoveries of plesiosaur fossils have to bring up Nessie. In this case, though, it’s a classic example of why I advocate giving journalism majors government grants to drink themselves to death: they’re going to do it anyway, so why not speed up the process so they cost us less and perform fewer atrocities as this in the process>

  2. Hang on, now: Don’t fall into the trap of mistaking Fox News for journalism…..

The only realistic answer to such a stupid question, of course is “Of course he’s alive, and he’s standing right ebhind yoooouuu!

Or kick them in the nads, whichever you prefer.
