The good ones have one child, or no children, while the Great Unwashed breed like they're the ones solely responsible for the survival of the species.<br /><br />I can think of numerous writers who wrote well, had one or maybe two novels in them, and then quit -- and I wish they had kept going. On the other hand, there are hordes of mediocre writers clogging the system (and even getting published) with craptacular prose.<br /><br />Other than forcing the literary equivalent of sterilization on those writers, I can't think of a way to stop them from producing.
